On Sunday, July 28th, a collision involving two motorcycles and a truck pulling a trailer ended in one motorcyclist dying and the other being seriously injured.
The collision occurred just after 10 am on SR 78 near Wynola, CA. A group of motorcyclists was traveling east when one member of the group crossed into the westbound lanes when going around a curve. The rider, a 66-year-old man riding a Harley-Davidson Road King, sideswiped a Chevrolet Silverado truck pulling a trailer, and was ejected from his motorcycle.
According to California Highway Patrol, the man fell into the eastbound lane where his bike landed on top of him. Unfortunately, the 66-year-old resident of La Mirada died while in the ambulance as he was being transported to Santa Ysabel to be airlifted. Authorities have not released his name.
Officials reported that another motorcyclist, a 55-year-old man from Mission Viejo, was severely injured in the crash. He was part of the group riding east on SR 78 and was riding behind the other motorcyclist, so he had to swerve to avoid running into him when he fell. This caused the 55-year-old motorcyclist to strike the side of the oncoming pickup truck, which ejected him onto the road.
The 55-year-old rider suffered major injuries in the crash and was taken to Palomar Hospital for treatment.
The Chevrolet pickup truck driver and passenger were uninjured in the crash.
CHP reported both motorcyclists were wearing helmets during the collision, and investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
